Chopin, the most celebrated pianist of any age, said, "Nothing is more beautiful
than a guitar, except, possibly, two." And two guitars will be delighting
Ontario audiences from April 25 to 29. This will be a unique opportunity to
enjoy the Classical Guitar Duo, Andrzej and Grzegorz Krawiec of Poland. Their
program will include familiar pieces and new compositions by J.S. Bach, Frederic
Chopin, Andrzej Cwojdzi½nski, Enrique Granados, and Joaquin Rodrigo written or
arranged for two guitars.
Brothers Andrzej and Grzegorz Krawiec have played guitar duets since 1996.
Their achievements include:
-1st prize at the National Guitar Competition in Koszalin (Poland)
-1st prize at the International Guitar Competition for Chamber Music Ensembles
with Classical Guitar "Ghitaralia" in Przemysl (Poland)
-3rd prize at the International Guitar Competition in Viareggio (Italy)
Andrzej and Grzegorz perform works originally written for guitar-duo as well as
their own transcriptions. They have been awarded grants by The Ministry of
Culture, The Mayor the city of Przemysl, and a prize for "Young Artists in
Europe" – Paderborn (Germany). Their concert schedule has taken them to Spain,
Germany, Austria, Romania, Canada and throughout Poland.
Grzegorz Krawiec
Born on 22nd of November 1980 in Przemysl (Poland). 1987-1999 studied classical
guitar
in Przemysl with prof. Wojciech Mandzyn.. In 2004 he finished his Masters Degree
at The Frederic Chopin Academy in Warsaw with prof. Marcin Zalewski.
Grzegorz is a prize-winner of many classical guitar competitions in Poland, Bath,
Vienna, Sernancelhe and Belgrade, and has played in such great concert halls as:
Witold Lutoslawski Polish Radio Concert Studio, Polish National Philharmonic
Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus and Glenn Gould Studio.
His first solo CD "Journey – Podroz" (MA Recordings) was voted by SoundStage! as
one of the 12 best CDs in 2005.
Andrzej Krawiec
Born on 28th of November in 1981 in
Przemysl (Poland). At the age of 7 he began guitar lessons at the Music School
in Przemysl. Andrzej graduated in 2005 from the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in
Düsseldorf (Germany) with prof. Joaquin Clerch. He has participated in
masterclasses conducted by A.Desiderio, E.Fisk, W.Lendle, T.Müller-Pering,
A.Swete and M.Tröster. Presently Andrzej studies at the Academy of Music in
Cracow with prof. Micha³ Nagy.
